Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player won his initial championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from that period of the previous year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his past six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.

His retrieving play style and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to create a decider.

Moutet saved four initial opportunities in a tight final set before the champion won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
